In 1975 a linguistics professor called Grinder and a mathematics and IT research student called Bandler described how language connetcs to thoughts and feelings. They suggested a model of how our experiences are represented in the mind, and how to make changes to those thoughts and associated feelings, this is called Neurolinguistic Programming. NLP was based on the successful models of leading therapists, such as Pearls (Gestalt), Satir (family therapist) and Erickson (hypnotherapist).
NLP became popular in the 1980s by the work of Tony Robbins who was a student of Grinder. It became commonly used technique in business to help improve communication skills and help improve performance.
Recently, there has also been a renewed endeavour to study the evidence for NLP as an accepted practice within mainstream psychology.
Our external world and experiences are represented in a variety of ways in our mind - this is called a map. We can explore the map to see how a problem is seen/felt/heard in our mind and can use our own creative abilities to modify our attachments to those experiences. It is a very powerful tool and can quickly disconnect someone from negative feelings.
The therapist will help you relax, much like a light hypnotic state, and then help explore how you 'represent' the problem in your subconscious mind, by asking what you see/feel/hear. The therapist will be led by you as to what you would like to do with that problem and support you with tools along the way.
NLP therapies are used for rapid transformation, and it is entirely guided by you, so you may have significant changes in the way you feel or approach particular parts of your life. The therapist will check if it is suitable for you before planning it as part of your treatment.
Each individual will have a different requirement. Please discuss it at your introduction call.
